Is there a particular motivation or superstition behind the German custom of flowers?
I was told by several people Through my studies of German, visiting a German house and make a gift of flowers for the woman of the house, it is customary to put an odd number. I I ask, is there any particular reason behind it? Superstition, maybe? If there is one, can someone explain?
I grew up in Germany, and yes, people are flowers when they visit the homes of others. My mother always bought flowers or a gift for my grandmothers. Especially when invited to a party, really should bring a gift or flowers for the woman of the house! With friends is not as common, and I do not know why it's a tradition. I think it is just common courtesy to something. I grew up with her and did never asked, so I'm not sure. I've never heard of the rule or odd number, or is a superstition. But it is a pleasure and something very pleasant to do. It feels good on the party and the guests do not come empty handed:)
